Constitutional Committee of the Riigikogu discussed the
good practice of e-voting and supported them by acclimation. As former MPs themselves who voted for the legaliziation the e-voting, members of the e-Governance Academy, Mrs. Liia Hänni and Mr.Ivar Tallo were present during the discussion. e-Governance Academy initiated the process of creating the e-voting good practice before the 2005 local elections in order to avoid the misunderstandings practicing the new way of casting votes over the Internet outside a voting booth using ordinary computers. By upcoming local elections one electoral cycle can be considered full as e-voting having been practiced now at all levels –local, national, and European elections. „The initial debates about the legality and need for the e-elections have subsided but the following of the good practice rules are still needed“ said Mrs Hanni, the director of the e-democracy programme at eGA.
e-voting starts on October 8, 2009 at 08:00 AM and lasts until October 14, 2009 at 08:00 PM
